In the beginning there was Bella

In the beginning there was Bella, and life was good. Then I decided that Bella needed a companion, and Scrappy joined the family. But Scrappy was not dog friendly, which presented other issues. One thing he was not the perfect companion I thought he would be for Bella. But that is a story for another post.
I had an issue from the beginning with the dogs wanting to run the neighborhood when I let them out. So, I needed a way to keep them in the yard to be safe and leave my neighbors alone. One problem though, Bella is deaf, and she can not hear me call her. After some Google searches I found a lady who trains deaf dogs. Kelly Blackwell. Anyone who is interested in training a deaf dog I highly recommend Kelly as she is one of the best in the South East in training deaf dogs with an eCollar.
Here is the link to her channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/panzertoo
Kelly introduced me to the eCollar, and she was right in the tool being perfect for a deaf dog. I contacted Kelly through her Youtube channel, and she immediately responded and directed me to some of her videos. I purchased her book, from her website which was pretty easy to follow, and is a great start for someone who is learning about positive eCollar training. I have since conditioned Bella to stay with me while she is loose in the yard, and where I know she will be safe from any harm. The problem with my neighborhood is that the cars coming through often travel at speeds greater than 40 miles per hour. My biggest fear was that Bella would not hear a car coming and get killed in an accident with one of the neighbors. So, with using the pager of a Dogtra eCollar I can call Bella to me. The pager mode of the collar causes the box to vibrate, and Bella knows when she feels the vibration to come to my side. And that is why an eCollar is the best training tool for a deaf dog. Dogtra has a stronger vibration as compared to a Sport Dog Collar. But I will say either collar are a good choice for positive Dog Training.

Here I am with my pack using pager mode on three of my dogs to keep them safely on my property:

To end this blog, I will say that you do not use an eCollar to scare a dog into submission. I rarely need to use the nick or constant. The nick or constant is a last resort after using the pager does not work. Vibration usually will get the dog’s attention and bring them back to you. I would rather use the nick or constant to stop one of my dogs than see them get hit by a car speeding by my property.  I highly recommend Kelly’s ebook on eCollar training. It is not expensive and is a great start to learning the right way to use an eCollar.
I wanted to include a link to her book, but her Diamond Bar Kennel site was not up at the time of this posting. If you are interested in her book please contact her through YouTube, and she will tell you how you can purchase a copy of her book. If you made it this far, thanks for reading my blog.
